Volunteering on the St Anns Allotments

Volunteers play a valuable and important role on the St Anns Allotments and are vital in supporting the work of STAA and the various community groups on site.

If you feel you have some time to offer and are interested in getting involved we have a range of activities available including the heritage project, wildlife management, the community orchard and work around the site.

Heritage project

The St Anns Allotments has a rich social and cultural history which we are trying to bring to life. As part of this work, we are looking for volunteers to be involved in the following areas of work

  • Setting up our heritage display garden
    – work parties every Wednesday 10am – 4pm and Saurdays 10am – 2pm
  • Helping out on open days, leading tours or delivering talks

Urban Nature team

Ten per cent of the 670 plots on the St Anns Allotments are managed to encourage and enhance wildlife and conservation. We are looking for volunteers to help with activities that include clearance of scrub, putting up nesting boxes, habitat creation and species ID.

Community Orchard

This is where we work with local children and families. We are now running regular practical volunteer days to maintain and develop the orchard.

Practical site work

Opportunities for individuals and groups (great for a team building day, or corporate volunteering event) to help with clearance and maintenance
