This website is run by STAA and can be found under www.staa-allotments.co.uk.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 200% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate the site using just a keyboard
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
  • We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • on very small screens, some content may not be fully visible
  • some functionality within the virtual tour requires path based gestures
  • Some functionality in the “Food Chain” game may be compromised on smaller screens

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

STAA is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Disproportionate burden

Navigation and accessing information

On very small screens with a vertical height of less than 320px, on some pages, it’s possible that not all content will be visible and/or some functionality may be lost. This contravenes WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.10.

Interactive tools and transactions

Exploring our Virtual Tours requires the use of path based gestures to pan and pinch based gestures to zoom. There is currently no single-touch alternative to these actions on mobile devices resulting in a failure on success criterion 2.5.1.

We have reviewed the work required to meet compliance on both of these points and at this moment in time, it represents a financial burden which is disproportionate to the benefit for users given that very few users are likely to view the solution at such a small resolution and they are able to pan and zoom using a single-touch on devices with a keyboard.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Some of our videos are not audio described resulting in a failure on success criterion 1.2.3 (audio description or media alternative pre-recorded) and 1.2.5 (audio description pre-recorded) of the WCAG 2.1 guidance. For UK public bodies, the accessibility regulations do not apply to pre-recorded audio and video published before 23 September 2020. Any new videos we publish will have edited captions and transcripts.
