7-11th November 2022 is Trustees’ Week – a date marker to all those working in the not-for-profit sector to celebrate the fantastic work that charity trustees do. Here at STAA, staff members and volunteers are regularly thanked by the local community and partner organisations for the work we do – but none of it would be possible without our trustees, who really are the unsung heros of the organisation. On behalf of us all, a HUGE THANK YOU to our remarkable Board of Trustees!
Individually and collectively, they ensure we are accountable, that our policies are fit for purpose, that our finances are well managed and that our safeguarding responsibilities are diligently undertaken. They make sure that we are a healthy, well-managed organisation that continues to deliver maximum community benefit. They offer challenge and oversight as well as the benefit of their knowledge, skills and experience with the sole purpose of making STAA’s operations the best they can be.
That’s not to say that being a STAA trustee is all about meetings and pouring over reports, policies and procedures. Oh no – if you have ever attended one of our larger events such as Apple Day, our trustees will have greeted you at the gate, served you tea and cake, pressed apples with you and done whatever was needed on the day to make sure you all had a great time. They are a handy bunch too – they help erect polytunnels, cut hedges and support us with a range of development activities across HR, information management and stakeholder engagement. We are proud that we continue to be a community-led organisation: 50% of our Board are also plot-holders at St Ann’s Allotments and 50% of our trustees started as regular volunteers. What they all have in common is a real passion for the work that STAA does with and in support of the local community and appreciation of the whole site as a community and heritage asset.
Thanks again, Lydia, Charlie, Clare, Alistair, John and Dave – we couldn’t do it without you!
