There’s nothing quite like being outdoors, even in the coldest winter days, and perhaps being outside is something that benefits us even more in the shorter months.
Tons of research backs this up, which is why the Greenspace project in Nottingham is such a welcome development. Greenspace is all about improving people’s mental health through nature-based activities, and STAA are one of the first ‘Trusted providers’ of this scheme.
We’ve always promoted the power of the outdoors for mental health at all levels, and our suite of activities has never been stronger or more accessible to a wider audience – with everything from toddler groups, to social tours, activities for specific groups and practical volunteering and skills development.
We will use this opportunity to increase links with social prescribing workers, and trial some targeted wellbeing activities. We will also reflect on the wider impact for all our volunteers and participants and feedback as much as we can to the pilot project.
We hope that all our activities enable people to enjoy and benefit from being outdoors in whatever way suits them – from a calming breath of fresh air, to meeting like-minded people, getting away from a busy city, to a road to recovery.
