Tell us a bit about yourself
I love to be outdoors as much as possible! Probably because my job in healthcare research keeps me close to a desk. Be it wild camping up in the lakes, cycling in the peaks, or digging in my allotment – I’m there! I find natural light, fresh air, physical activity and birdsong great for the soul.
What made you want to become a trustee at STAA?
Up until moving back to Notts a few years ago, I was a member of a community garden in Peckham for close to a decade. It was a huge part of my life and I met so many wonderful characters who I learned from and shared amazing experiences with.
I particularly enjoy seeing the delight on people’s faces when they come to St Ann’s Allotments for the first time, having never realised something like this existed in such an urban setting. I feel communities are massively important to our wellbeing, especially those with a focus on nature and food growth and there are many parallels with what I was doing previously and all the amazing work that STAA has done for the community over the years. When I saw there was an opportunity to be involved, I jumped at it!
What are your ambitions for STAA?
As well as helping keep a focus on preserving and celebrating the heritage of this amazing historic site, I am very keen to support STAA in their continued involvement in the community in any way I can – from good old manual labour, helping make strategic decisions, or perhaps using my technical, managerial and financial experiences gained from my day job.
Being the father of a recently turned 4-year-old girl, I’ve seen first-hand the positive benefits that STAA brings and I want to ensure that this very local (c 250 meters from my house!) project continues to go from strength to strength.
